Gary Otto Daniels, 71, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Houston, TX from complications following surgery. Visitation will be Saturday, July 19th from 12:30 until the 3:00 PM Funeral Service at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. Burial will follow at the Garden of Memories. Pallbearers will be Ronnie McKenzie, Donnie McKenzie, Larry Montgomery, Bryan DelVecchio, Andrew Lee, Jay Montgomery, Kelly McKenzie and Joe Tynes. Mr. Daniels was born May 20, 1943 to Felbert Frasier and Lela Mae Boyd Daniels in Stringer, MS. He was raised in Soso and Big Creek, MS, graduated from Soso High School, and attended Jones Junior College. Gary was a Christian man who knew and loved the Lord. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Florence and former member of Woodville Heights Baptist Church where he sang in the choir. Gary was retired from a Real Estate Career where he was a Developer, Broker, and Builder. He was the owner of Daniels Realty, DANWAR Development and G.O. Properties. He also worked for Gary Smith Realty and Century 21 for many years. He was very involved in real estate in Jackson where he won numerous awards and served on the Board of the MLS. An avid lover of automobiles, he enjoyed restoring antique corvettes, sports, attending car races, golfing, hunting and fishing. He enjoyed traveling to Mexico, Europe, Alaska and out west. He love Marty Robbins music and knew the words to every song he wrote. He enjoyed camping-out and water skiing when he was younger. Gary loved his pets and most recently, his Siberian Husky, “Yukon”. He was a man of honor and integrity. He was a very hard worker and instilled a high standard of excellence in his children. He had a funny wit and was loved by many friends. He adored his wife, Hazel, and deeply loved his children and family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be truly missed but we know he is with the Lord. Gary is survived by his wife of 51 years, Hazel Ruth McKenzie Daniels, of Florence; children, Regina Karen Daniels Mulholland (Dr. David Mulholland) and Captain Jon Eric Daniels (Sherrie Bush); 5 grandchildren, Bryan Daniels DelVecchio, Ava McKenzie DelVecchio, Anna Lauren Bicker Daniels, Sara Mulholland D’Antoni (Phil) and Charles Andrew Lee; brother, Jimmy Gerldon Daniels (late Kitty Daniels); sister, Margaret Daniels Montgomery (Larry); brothers-in-law, Larry Montgomery, Ronnie McKenzie, and Donnie McKenzie; sisters-in-law, Rebecca McKenzie, Janice McKenzie and the late Sara Littlepage; and many nieces and nephews that he loved.
