Gary Fagan died at University Medical Center on May 14, 2014. Visitation will be 4-6pm Saturday, May 17, 2014 and 1pm until the 2pm funeral service Sunday, May 18, all at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Interment will be in Eastern Cemetery in Forest, MS. Dr. Fagan was a native of the Jackson area, graduated from Provine High School, 1958; Mississippi College, 1962, and New Orleans Seminary, 1966, with Doctor of Ministries, 1978. In seminary he pastored New Zion Baptist Church, Monticello, MS; directed Youth for Christ in Jackson, 1966-1976. He established the first Youth Ministries Department, Barrington College, RI, and was College Chaplain. His pastorates included Norwood Evangelical Baptist Church, Norwood, MA; Elkdale Baptist Church, Selma, AL; Central Baptist Church, Melbourne, FL, and McElwain Baptist Church, Birmingham, AL. He and his wife Bertha served with southern Baptist International Mission Board in Malawi, Africa, as Chaplain of University of Malawi; and Pastor of the International Baptist Church in Brasilia, Brazil. Since returning to the States, he has pastored Southern Hills Baptist Church and taken medical missions teams with “Here’s Life Africa.” Gary loved the Lord and family and friends and is survived by his wife, Bertha Pepper Fagan of 52 years; daughter Lari Beckley and husband James, Deltona, FL; son Jeff Fagan, Hattiesburg, MS; sisters, Marilyn (Jack) Schmidt and Nancy (Rudy) Kamenick; sister-in-law Laura Sharp; six grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
