Gavin Lee Lott, Sr.

Gavin Lee Lott, Sr., affectionately known as Coach or Grumpy, peacefully entered his eternal rest on Saturday, March 8, 2025, while visiting Jackson County, Mississippi. Born on December 18, 1951, in Pascagoula, MS, Gavin was the son of Frank Oliver Lott and Ida Martin Lott. He grew up in Gulfport, MS, where he excelled in football and graduated from Gulfport High School in 1969. His passion for the game led him to play at Mississippi College, where he also met the love of his life, Debbie.

Throughout his 31-year coaching career, Gavin’s dedication and passion for mentoring young athletes left a lasting impact on students across Mississippi. His influence reached far beyond the field, shaping not only skilled players but also strong, confident individuals. Following his retirement, he and Debbie made their home in Florence, where they have spent the past 19 years.

Gavin is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Debbie Townsend Lott; his son, Gavin L. “Chip” Lott, Jr. (Robyn) of Prairieville, LA; and daughters, Rebekah L. Martin (Donald) of Kosciusko, MS, and Emily L. Fabian (Chris) of Hebron, KY. His greatest joy in life was his beloved grandchildren: London, Scarlett, and Gavin Davis Lott; Katilyn, Tuff, Mailey, and Garrett Shaw; Piper and Lance Fabian, as well as his four step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Russell C. Lott.

Services will be held at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, MS, with visitation in the chapel from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM, followed by a service at 11:00 AM.

A faithful member of First Baptist Church in Florence, Gavin loved the Lord and often spoke of the joy of reuniting with loved ones in heaven and standing in the presence of Jesus. Here on earth, nothing brought him greater happiness than watching his children and grandchildren excel in their passions and pursuits.

Gavin will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, coach, and mentor—a man whose faith, love, and leadership left a lasting mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of encouragement, integrity, and unwavering love will live on in the hearts of many.
