Gene Clifton Cook, 92, passed away Friday, July 25, 2014 at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be Monday, July 28 at 9:00 until the 10:00 graveside at Rosemont Gardens in Jackson Gene was a longtime Jackson resident, spending the last 20 years in Byram. He was a faithful, devoted Christian, a former deacon and a member of Alta Woods Baptist Church. He was a 32nd degree mason, involved in the Wahabi Shriners, loved to fish, and enjoyed his flower and vegetable gardens. He was a co-owner of Atwood Burglar Alarm Company and was a mechanic for many years with Lane-Moak Pontiac and Dumas-Milner Chevrolet Company. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II in Germany and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Gene was preceded by his parents Gene and Bertha Cook of Puckett; a sister Maurine James; and a son Robert “Bob” Cook. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Helen Cook; sons Gene (Sandra) Cook of Florence and Dennis Cook of Byram; 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; and a host of friends.
