Gene H. Wade

Gene Hurtis Wade died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Ridgeland MS on July 11, 2023. He was born in Columbus, GA on February 5, 1926, to Gordon and Evie Wade.  He was the eldest of 7. He is survived by his sister Francis. James, David, Lyndol, Ray and Bennie, all preceded him in death.

He joined the US Navy when he was 16 serving in the Pacific Theater.  His ship was attacked near Guadalcanal and Tarawa.  He was wounded in action in route to Guadalcanal.  He served primarily as a Semaphore Operator. 

Gene enjoyed fishing and small game hunting.  He became a pilot and was a member of the MS Civil Air patrol in the 60s and 70s, participating in many Search and Rescue operations. He lived in Jackson and later in Florida where he was an accountant.

He remarried late in life to Barbara Hilton in 2017. Gene is survived by his wife Barbara, his son Phillip Wade, his daughter Myra Hammond, 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Gene requested that no service be held.  His arrangements are being administered by Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence.
