Dr. George Curtis French went to be with his blessed Lord, Friday, November 7, 2014, at his home in Jackson. George loved his family and cherished his friends. He attended the University of Alabama and was a walk on kicker under the direction of Bear Bryant in the late 60’s. He was a devoted member of Alta Woods Baptist Church and enjoyed teaching Sunday school, singing in both choirs and thoroughly enjoyed working with the youth to provide them with guidance in the Community Neighborhood Ministry. He is preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Monroe French and Georgia Lee Smith French. He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Smith of North Carolina; her mother, Billie Ballard of Tucker, GA; cousins, T. Edward “Eddie” Smith, Jr., John Robert “Butch” French, Jr., Annette French O’Dell and her husband, Sammy, and Leeann Dunn all of Gadsden, AL; his dear friends from college, Lonnie and Margie Loper of Nashville, TN, and James Nowlin of Billings, Montana; life long friend, Faye Grow of Tuscaloosa, AL; beloved friend, Robert Moore of Jackson, MS; and his church family, Associate Pastor Sid Johnson, Lena Causey and Vera Everett all of Jackson, MS. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00pm Monday, November 10, 2014 and 10am until the 11am funeral service Tuesday, November 11, 2014 all at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram.
