George Albert Hancock

May 29, 1941 — January 15, 2021

George Albert Hancock, 79, of Florence, MS, passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior, Friday, January 15, 2021. His family was at his side. George was born May 29, 1941, in Cleveland, MS, youngest of three sons, to Dennis and Sammie Hancock. While attending Delta State College, he met and wed the love of his life, Mary Ann Little, and they were married for 59 years. Never one to sit still, George had many interests and hobbies throughout his life. He was a talented musician who shared his love of music with countless band students throughout his career. He loved the outdoors, duck and turkey hunting when in season, and fishing anytime the weather permitted. He loved astronomy and RC planes. The world knew him as N5GH, ham radio operator. An avid photographer, there is hardly anyone he ever knew that he did not take their picture. George loved and served his Lord in many ways. He was a true servant of his fellow man, always helping anyone in any way he could. He served as a Deacon at First Baptist Church, Florence, a church home that he truly loved. George was preceded in death by his parents, William and Sammie Hancock, his brother, Dennis, and Donald Swafford. He is survived by his devoted wife Mary Ann; children Deborah H. Burke, George Hancock, Jr. (Lisa), Sheri H. May, and Stephanie H. Dill (Johnny); brother, Lannis Hancock (Sandra) and Ronald Swafford (Tracy); 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Thursday, January 21, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Florence. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to The American Heart Association or Baptist Children’s Village. Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence is assisting the family with the arrangements.
