Rev. George Laverne Lewis

Rev. George Laverne Lewis, 82, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2015 at his home in Florence. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 25, 2015 from 5-8 pm and Thursday, march 26th from 1pm until the 2pm Funeral Service at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories. Rev. Lewis was born July 14, 1932 to Charles and Maggie Lewis of Harrisville, MS. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Florence. He was a retired Mississippi Air National Guard and served in the U.S. Air Force in Korea and Vietnam. He served as pastor at several churches including Franklin Baptist Church in Flora, Clear Branch Baptist church in Florence, Antioch Baptist Church in Florence, Kennedy Spring Baptist Church in Mendenhall, Siloam Baptist Church in Magee, Wanilla Baptist Church in Monticello, and Macedonia Baptist Church in Mendenhall. Rev. Lewis is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mrs. Beatrice M. Lewis of Florence; their only child, Deana Lewis Tew; 3 grandsons, Aaron (Michelle) Tew of Flowood, Austin (Jessica) Tew of Pearl, and Hunter Tew of Mendenhall; 6 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews; and a special friend and caretaker, April Funchess.
