Gerald Marion “G M” Dean, passed away at the age of 93 on June 14, 2023. He was born October 21, 1929, to Lennie Marion Dean and Frannie Crafton of McComb. In 1948, he joined the United States Navy where he served on The USS Coral Sea. After returning from service, he met and married his wife, Arlene Rushing in 1953 and moved from McComb to Jackson shortly thereafter. They remained in Jackson and raised three children. In his personal life, Gerald loved spending time with family and friends. He was a long-time member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
Gerald's passion for working hard led him to work for the Illinois Central Railroad for more than four decades before retiring in 1991. He took tremendous pride in his work and was known for his tireless spirit and strong work ethic.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arlene Dean; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Alton and Frances Rushing of McComb, MS. He is survived by a son, Mike Dean (Kay) of Pike Road, AL; two daughters: Carol Dean of Brandon and Sandra Lundstrom (James) of Florence; grandchildren: Jay Lundstrom, Jacob Lundstrom (Kelsey), Becki Dean, Stephen Dean (Amy), Andrew Dean (Krista); as well as five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
The family would like to thank the staff at Villa South Assisted Living, for the care they provided to their dad.
A visitation will be held to honor Gerald Marion Dean on Saturday, June 17, at 10:00 a.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, MS. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Lay minister Richard Henley. The interment will follow at Lakewood South Memorial Park in Jackson.
