Mrs. Geraldine Eugenia Green

January 21, 1925 — October 8, 2014

Geraldine Pullen Green 89, passed away at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland on Wednesday, October 8, 2014. Visitation will be Thursday, October 9th from 5-8 PM and Friday, October 10th from 10 am until the 11 am funeral service at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. A graveside service will be held at the Masonic Cemetery in Louisville at 3:00 following the service. She was born January 21, 1925 in Columbus, MS to Thelma and Fred Pullen. She later became a big sister when her sister, Freda Pullen Stacy was born. She grew up in Columbus where she attended Lee High School and Mississippi State College for Women (MSCW), which is now known as Mississippi University for Women (MUW). She graduated in 1946 with a degree in piano. Years later she earned a degree in Elementary Education at Mississippi College in Clinton, MS. Ms. Green was a church organist for 71 years before she retired in 2008. She became a church organist at the age of 13, playing the organ at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Columbus. She played for many churches including Poplar Springs Baptist in Meridian, First Baptist Kosciusko, and First Baptist Clinton. In Jackson she played for Capitol Street Methodist, Epworth Methodist, Parkway Baptist, St. Richard’s Catholic Church, and Lakeshore Congregational Church. She also played for First Methodist Church in Richland MS, and she retired when she was playing for Westview Baptist in Jackson. She taught school in Macon, Kosciusko, and Clinton. She excelled in music, but her greatest gift was the gift of joy. No matter the situation or circumstance, she found a way to smile in the midst of it. She had the ability to find humor in everything and you could not be near her and not smile yourself. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel C. Green who passed away in 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Green Cleveland, her son-in-law Grant Cleveland, both of Terry, MS, and her sister, Freda Pullen Stacy of Gordo, Al. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and many friends whom she loved dearly. Memorials may be made to the Mississippi Children’s Home Society.
