Mrs. Nellie “Germiece” Shields, 84, went to be with heavenly father on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at Briar Hill Rest Home in Florence. The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, October 29th from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and again Friday, October 30th from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Florence. Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Shields family cemetery in Richland. Mrs. Shields was born November 15, 1935 to the late Jessie Dewitt and Nettie Elizabeth Netterville Whetstone in Wilkinson County, Mississippi. She has called Richland her home for the last 64 years. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served as the organist for 60 years. She worked as a loan officer for 27 years with the MS Postal Employees FCU, but her greatest accomplishment was her children that she always put first. Along with her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John G. Shields, Sr. and her son, Lewie K. Shields. She is survived by her children, John G. Shields, Jr., M.D. (Beverly) of West Point, MS, Al Ra Shields, Sr. (Becky) of Richland, MS, Crystal McFarland (Richard) of Euless, TX, Steven D. Shields, R.Ph (Penny) of Richland, MS, Tadd Shields (Terri) of Farmington, UT, Rod A. Shields, M.D. (Lauren) of Florence, MS, and Cindy Dean of Richland; daughter-in-law, Lisa A. Shields of Richland, MS; brother, Frank Harris of Florence, MS; 27 grandchildren; and 56 great grandchildren with 1 on the way.
