Gertha Walker Ward

Gertha Walker Ward passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Thursday, May 25, 2023, in Florence, Mississippi. She was 98 years old.  The family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 with burial following at Harrisville Cemetery.

Gertha was born on December 6, 1924, to Ocie Ola Walker and Salundy Francis Pewitt Walker in Litton, Mississippi. She was a member of North Brandon Church of Christ. Gertha loved to cook. She was a caring lady, always visiting others and sending cards. She loved to read the Bible and living by it. She truly loved the Lord. Exemplified what it meant to be a servant and being there for the body of Christ. To know Mrs. Gertha was to love her and her life is an example of the reward she has received in Heaven.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Ward; parents, O. O. and Ludy Walker; sons, Joseph Allen Gordon and Bobby Gene Gordon; 11 siblings and daughter-in-law, Marjorie Gordon.  She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Dale Gordon of Braxton; 6 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
