Mary “Gladys” Gordon passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was 83. Gladys was born January 29, 1939, in Clay County, MS to the late Robert S. and Lillie Lanham Ivy. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church Byram where she served in several capacities, she mostly enjoyed greeting the community with her gift of kindness and uplifting spirit. She loved the Lord, her church and her church family. Gladys was a talented artist, she enjoyed painting and drawing. She loved to travel, going to the coast or the mountains and camping. She enjoyed trying new casserole recipes and was Elvis’ biggest fan. Gladys was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her cousins, Josephine and Donald Durret.
Gladys is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jack Gordon of Terry, MS, son, Michael S. Gordon of Terry, MS, sister, Francis Ivy Staten of West Point, MS, a granddaughter, Kristin Gordon, brother-in-law, Bill Gordon, sister-in-law, Elsie Gordon, nephews, Scott Gordon and Jim Staten, nieces, Emily Staten Black, Melissa Jenkins and Leslie Galloway, cousins, Jean Sanders, Johnny Durret of San Francisco, CA and Lillian Ruth of Tuscaloosa, AL.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church in Byram on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at 12 noon with Rev. Carl Prewitt and Rev. Brandon Powell officiating. Visitation will be 10 AM until 12 PM. Interment will follow the service at Garden of Memories in Florence.
Serving the family as pallbearers will be Jeffrey Gagneaux, Terry Griffin, Joe Hennington, Billy Price, Bob Witbie, Rod Sanders and Carl Hollingsworth.
