Guy Logan Benton passed away on September 11, 2017. He was born May 1, 1923 in Needville, Texas, and was the son of Frank Benton, and Ada Hartfiel Benton. He served with the US Army Air Force during WWII and participated in the 1945 invasion of Okinawa, Japan. Guy worked for Tennessee Gas in Greenville, Mississippi and later worked for the City of Vicksburg, Ms in many capacities to include Vicksburg Street Superintendent, and Director of the city cemetery with oversight of the city streets rights of way, street cleaning department and the city maintenance department. Prior to retiring in 1987, he was the assistant director of public works for Vicksburg, overseeing the operations in the city maintenance shop, as well as the cemetery and street, water, gas and sewer departments. Prior to his position with the City of Vicksburg, Guy was the vice president of Girod Construction Company. He was a current resident of Melbourne, Fl and a former member of the Lakeshore Methodist Church in Byram, Ms. Guy was preceded in death by his mother and father, a sister, Peggy Benton Whittenaben, a brother, Frank Benton, Jr, all of Needville, Texas, and his daughter, Kaye Klett of Houston, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Meadows Benton, a sister, Marie Benton Young of Sulfur, Louisiana, a brother, William (Bill) Benton of Needville, Texas, and two step sons, Ken Dahl (Dana) of Yorktown, Virginia and Wayne Dahl (Melanie) of Melbourne, Florida. Visitation will be Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 10am until the 11am Memorial Service at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Interment will follow at Lakewood South Memorial Park.
