H. D. Ellis, 71, left this world and went home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 1, 2010, at home in Raymond, MS, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by his family and his faithful pet companion Poppe. A memorial service celebrating H. D.'s life will be held Saturday, June 5, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, MS. He will be laid to rest at 2:00 p.m. in New Hope Cemetery in Leake County. Reverends John Holifield and Ken Brown will officiate. Visitations will be at Chancellor Funeral Home of Byram on Thursday and Friday, June 3 - 4, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 5, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. \ \ H. D. was born on May 15, 1939, in Jackson, MS, to Hooks David Ellis and Fannie Deselle Burkes. His family resided in Walnut Grove, MS, until moving to Jackson in 1948. He attended Provine High School, where he graduated in the class of 1957/1958. \ \ H. D. served in Mississippi Army National Guard in the 114th Military Police Company. He was a self-made man, working at a number of jobs before forming B & E Communications, Inc. in Jackson, MS, with John Burt in 1976.\ \ H. D. was preceded in death by his parents, brother Marcus Ellis, sister Carolyn Walker, and son Spencer Ellis. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Carolyn Ann Wren Ellis, of Amory, MS; sister Jean Peoples of Carthage, MS; son David Ellis (Erin) of Keller, TX; son Mark Ellis (Mardi Allen) of Brandon, MS; daughter Holly Ellis Berry (Scott) of Shreveport, LA; son David Thompson (Melissa) of Smyrna, TN; and son John Thompson (Melanie) of Flowood, MS; grandchildren Hollie Harrison, Chad Ellis, Austin Ellis, Dillon Berry, Matthew Ellis, Brandon Ellis, Eric Ellis, Emily Ellis, Kristen Berry, Taylor Thompson, Cole Thompson, Carson Berry, Blake Thompson, and Ellie Thompson; and four great-grandsons Cason Harrison, Bryson Harrison, Harston Harrison, and Brayden Ellis.\ \ In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital and Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children.\
