Mr. Henry A. Riser

January 20, 1932 — August 25, 2013

Henry Atwood Riser, 81, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2013 and Baptist Hospital in Jackson. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 27, 2013 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm and Wednesday, August 28, 2013 from 10:00am until the 11:00am service at First Baptist Church, Raymond, MS. Interment will follow at the Raymond Cemetery. Henry was born January 20, 1932 in Terry, MS and spent the majority of his life in Raymond, MS. He is a graduate of Hinds High School and Hinds Junior College. He served his country in the Armed Forces for over 40 years with the Mississippi Army National Guard, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer Four. In addition, he worked full-time for 31 years for the National Guard. He loved sports and served as the Public Address Announcer for Raymond High School from 1972-1999, for Hinds Community College from 1978-2002, and for Central Hinds Academy from 2001-2007. His many contributions to Hinds Community College were recognized when he received the Hinds Community College Alumni Service Award in 1999, and with his election into the Hinds Community College Sports Hall of Fame in 2004. He served the Sports Hall of Fame as both Selection Committee Member and Banquet Master of Ceremonies for many years. He loved the Lord and was a member of First Baptist Church in Raymond for over 50 years, serving in various positions such as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Church Clerk to name a few. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hillman and Ruby Riser, by his sister Jean Riser Owens, and by his first wife Wanda Whitten Riser. Mr. Riser is survived by his wife, Millie Riser of Clinton, daughters Janet Riser Beasley of Pearl, Jean Riser Calderon of Raymond and Kim Arthur Vance, also of Raymond; sons Henry A. Riser, Jr (Woody) of Monroe, LA, Ellis Riser of Brandon and Jeff Vance of Jackson; 7 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to Saint Jude’s Children Hospital at www.stjude.org, or the Bill French Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church Raymond.
