Mr. Hollis Haynes Langston, 86, passed from this life Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. Visitation will be held at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence on Monday, November 19 at 11:00 AM with a chapel service following at 1:00 PM. Interment will be at the Florence City Cemetery. A native of Old Silver Creek, MS and the son of the late Jacob Hollis Langston and the late Hilda Frances Armstrong, he lived in Jackson most of his life, moving to Florence in 1997. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Florence. After attending Co-Lin and graduating from Mississippi Southern College (USM), he joined the Army in September of 1953, serving in the Finance Corp. As a reservist (8 years), he served in the reserves Honor Guard, supporting military funerals throughout the Southeast. Hollis was a beloved son, brother, husband and father. He was “a man of few words”, however, his love of his family was always evident by his devotion to them. He also worked in the insurance business for over 30 years. Mr. Langston was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Joanne Coward Langston, an infant son and daughter, Kathy Langston Wansley. He is survived by his children; daughter, Marsha Lineberry (Larry) and son, Hollis (Bubba) H. Langston, Jr. (Angie) all of Florence; sister, Margie Langston of Silver Creek, MS; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or First Baptist Church – Florence’s Food Pantry.
