I.M. “Duke” Lewis, 81, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Willow Creek Nursing Home in Byram, MS. The family will have a private memorial service. Mr. Lewis was born to Irvin B. Lewis and Estelle Coke Lewis on October 04, 1939 in Hinds County, MS. He was a retired lieutenant with the Jackson Fire Department and was recognized as Fireman of the Year in 1982. He also worked as an Insulator with the Local Insulator’s Union 114. An avid hunter and marksman, Mr. Lewis was a member and president of Sills Hunting Club and also enjoyed competitive shooting with his granddaughter. He was a longtime member of Magnolia Rifle and Pistol Club. “Duke” could be described as the strong, silent type. He had an artistic streak and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Joe Lewis and sister, Ann Cook. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ruth Lewis; son, Jeff (Dian) Lewis of Byram; and two grandchildren, Emily and Reece Lewis. Honorary Pallbearers are Gale Davis, Ben Farmer, Richard Thames, Richard Berry, Clarence Whittington, William “Bubba” Stokes, and Robert “Bobby” Jones. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital under the name I.M. “Duke” Lewis.
