Mrs. Jackie McKenzie

Joyce Jacqualine Haley McKenzie, 91, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Copiah County Medical Center in Hazlehurst. Visitation will be 5-7pm Friday, January 19, at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Graveside services will be at 2pm Saturday, January 20, at Cayuga Cemetery. Mrs. McKenzie was born in Monticello, AR to the late William Edward Haley and Verner Logan Haley. Living most of her life in the South Jackson area, she had worked for McRae’s Department Stores in Telecommunications for many years, while eventually retiring from Belk Department Store. She was a wonderful cook, known especially for her muffins—which was her own special recipe. She loved sharing them with people, everyone from the mail courier to all delivery couriers as well people all over the state of Mississippi. Mrs. McKenzie loved horses and showing them in shows with her family in the 1960’s and 1970’s. She absolutely loved her dog “Max”, they were truly inseparable during their times together. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Allen McKenzie, Jr.; two brothers; two sisters and her beloved companion “Max” her black lab. Survivors include her son Hugh Allen McKenzie, III (Linda) of Terry; grandchildren, Leigh Ann McKenzie and Hugh “Allen” McKenzie IV; one great grandson, Waylon.
