James Earl “Chief” Berry, 69, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2016 at his home in Richland. A Memorial Service will be Thursday, February 11th at 7:00 p.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence with visitation from 6-7 p.m. "Chief" was born in New Hebron, MS on January 18, 1947 to the late Earl Berry and Lela Clark Berry. He was a self-employed painter and plain spoken gentleman. He loved Harley Davidson motorcycles and lived every day like it was his last. Mr. Berry was preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters, Tina Sasser and Rebecca Berry. He is survived by his wife, Julia Berry of Richland; two daughters, Dana (Kindel) Carpenter and Scotty Carpenter, father of their children, all of Florence; and Selena (Richard) Berry of Richland; his son, Joseph Berry of Richland; and his other children, Shane Hurd of Tacoma, WA and Sandra Berry of Tennessee; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
