James Harold Hankins, 85, went to be with the Lord Saturday, February 13, 2016. Visitation will be 5-8pm Wednesday, February 17, 2016 and 1pm until the 2pm funeral service Thursday, February 18, 2016, all at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Cemetery in Pearl. Mr. Hankins was born in Smith County, MS to the late Clinton Bryant Hankins and Effie Mae Looney Hankins. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. during the Korean Conflict, he moved to South Jackson. He worked at Duraco Industries as a Trainer and was a 32 degree Mason with the Leavell Woods Lodge and also a Wahabi Temple Shriner. He was a member of Oakview Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. Mr. Hankins was loved by all who knew him. He enjoyed helping friends and neighbors with their projects and working in the yard. He enjoyed spending time with his family and church members, especially church outings. He enjoyed having a garden each year, so he could share his vegetables with family and friends. He always put his family first. He was the patriarch of the family. He always felt no matter your job, it should be done with pride and to the best of your ability. He believed in the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” He is preceded in death by his grandson Jeremiah Walley; siblings Betty Jean Hankins, Mary Hankins and David Hankins. Survivors include his wife of 61 years Tip Hankins of Jackson; son Jamie (Jennifer) Hankins of Madison; daughter Devonda (Henry) Walley of Jackson; brothers Jimmy Dale Hankins of Foley, AL and Carrol Hankins of Taylorsville; sisters Alice Overland of Ellisville, Pearl Grace Robinson of Terry, Johnnie Lee of Brandon and Helen Gately of Centeridge; grandchildren Heath Walley, Deanna Walley, Ethan Hankins and Annabelle Hankins; great grandchilden Christian Walley, Jeremiah Walley, Grayson Walley, Dylan Storey and Dawson Smith. Memorials may be made to Oakview Baptist Church.
