James Earnest Hodge

James Earnest Hodge, also known as Sonny and Uncle Bucky, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024, at his home in Star, MS. He was 84 years old. The family will receive friends and extended family for visitation from 5:00-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2024, and again from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Chancellor as well. Interment will follow the service in the Garden of Memories.

Sonny was born on April 23, 1939, to William Michael Hodge and Ethel Olla Thompson Hodge in Laurel, MS. In his early years he loved to play guitar and sing with his buddies and family. Sonny loved NASCAR and was a big supporter of his son Mike in his dirt track races. He enjoyed gardening and loved giving his harvest to his family and friends. But above all, he loved his family. He will truly be missed.

Sonny is preceded in death by his parents; and his 5 siblings, Doll, Earl, Harles, Peggy and Bertha; and his wife, Faye Hodge. He is survived by his son, Mike Hodge (Betty) of Star; daughter, Glenda Ainsworth (Ricky) of Braxton; grandchildren, Nick, Natalie, Olivia, Catherine, Breanna, and Ashley; great grandchildren, Nova Lee, Noah, Prudence, Vollin, and Paisley; and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.
