James L. (Jimmy) Anderson died in his home in Raymond on April 30, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was 82. Jimmy was born on January 14, 1936 in Bogalusa, LA to his parents Robert G. and Lena Anderson. Although his family moved frequently when he was young for his father’s job as a railroad depot agent, Jimmy spent much of his childhood in and around the town of Hopewell, MS. He attended Crystal Springs Consolidated School before finishing his senior year at Prentiss High School in 1954. After graduating, he moved to Jackson where he met Hazel Sebren of Mount Olive, MS, whom he married in 1957. They were married for over sixty years and raised three sons. Jimmy worked thirty years for the Jackson Fire Department, retiring in 1998. Jimmy loved to fish and was almost always unbeatable in a game of horseshoes or washers. He loved college football and baseball, and later in life had enjoyed playing golf which he called “ a humbling game”. Most of all, he loved God and his bible, and spending time with his family. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and a member of the Gideons. He is survived by his wife Hazel Sebren Anderson; son, Larry Anderson (Missy) of Raymond; son, Steve Anderson of Brandon; son, Scott Anderson (Jenny) of Madison; seven grandchildren-Kimmi, Cody, Erica, Hannah, Rainey, Cate and Cannon; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, three brothers and three sisters, and granddaughter, Amanda Anderson. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 2 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, MS. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 3 at 10:00 a.m with service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church in Crystal Springs, MS. A graveside service will be held at New Hope Baptist Church in Mount Olive, MS at 2:00 p.m. In leiu of flowers, donations can be made to New Hope Baptist Church, Hopewell Baptist Church, or any children’s hospital of your choice.
