James Edmund (Jim) Shelton, Jr. of Florence, MS passed away Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. Jim was born February 24, 1941 in Hattiesburg, MS. He grew up in Jackson, MS and graduated from Central High School in 1960. After graduation he enlisted in the Marines. After returning to Jackson, he was employed with South Central Bell and then retired from AT&T in 1999. When the Braves came to Pearl, he was employed with them for 9 years. He was a member of the Cleary Volunteer Fire Department, also a member of the Big Black Hunting Club, which he and his beloved companion “Sioux” a golden retriever enjoyed hunting with his friends. He also coached little league baseball for years. Visitation will be Sunday, June 7, 2015 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Monday, June 8, 2015 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Funeral Service at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. Burial will follow at Cleary Baptist Church Cemetery. Jim was preceded in death by his parents James and Mattie Shelton, siblings Dora Ann Sudbeck, Joe and Terry Shelton. He is survived by his wife, June Allen Shelton; daughter, Kristy (Justin) Ketteringham and two grandchildren Brooke and Brett Walker of Terry. Brother, Reed Shelton of Gluckstadt and numerous nieces and nephews.
