Mr. James Perry "Chub" Simmons, 85, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2020 surrounded by his family, after a brief illness. The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Lakewood Memorial Park South, McCluer Road, Jackson, MS with the graveside service following at 11:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be Kenny Simmons, Larry Simmons, Greg Simmons, Danny Simmons, Joseph Martin, and Jack Whittington. Honorary pallbearers are Steve Soriano and Tommy Riley. The family requests anyone coming to be mindful of and adhere to COVID-19 protocols for the safety of all. Mr. Simmons was born in Weir, MS on January 22, 1935 to Frank Simmons and Ruth Turner Simmons. He was a proud Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War. Mr. Simmons was an avid sports fan and particularly fond of MSU Football, Nascar, and Horses. Prior to retiring, he was the founder, owner, and operator of Simmons Excavation. The ultimate pride and joy of his life were his granddaughters. Preceded in death by his wife, Sybil Simmons; daughter, Jennifer Simmons; and six other siblings. Survivors include one son, Jimmy Simmons of Jackson; one daughter, Renee Bankston (Shane) of Terry; two sisters, Shira Ann Foster (Freddie) of Jackson, Brenda Asken of Buford, GA; four grandchildren: Camille Savell (Jared), Caitlyn Hutton (Brandon), Caroline Bankston, and Jordan Simmons; numerous nieces, nephews, two very close friends Jack Whittington and Joseph Martin; other relatives and friends.
