Mr. James P. Smith

Mr. James Prentiss Smith, 82, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2013 at his home in Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram with interment in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday and from 10:00 until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Smith was born March 23, 1931 in Lauderdale County, Mississippi to the late Annie and James Lafayette Smith. He was the owner of Lott Furniture Company of Jackson and was a dedicated member of McRaven Road Church of Christ, where he served as elder. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his son, James Allan Smith and by his sister, Sybil Ruth Hudnell. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Morgan Smith of Clinton, son, Jay Andrew Smith, Ph.D. of Fort Myers, Florida; daughter, Jeanne Ann Rea, M.D. of Summit, MS; daughter, Jo Allison Barnette (Robert) of Caledonia, and daughter-in-law, Serrie Sims Smith of Summit. He is also survived by his grandchildren, James Daniel Smith (Amanda) of Summit, Samantha Dykes of Summit, Morgan Leigh Smith of Starkville, Candace Kay Barnette of Meridian, Alexander Hamilton Rea of Summit, and Hannah Elizabeth Rea of Summit; great-grandchildren Carsyn Danielle Smith of Summit and Jeremiah Allan Smith of Summit; as well as nephews, Hester Hudnell, Jr., Willie James Hudnell, and Raymond Hudnell, all of Meridian.
