Jamy Emile Dickson died on August 15, 2016, in Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland after a protracted and valiant battle with cancer. He is survived by his father Johnny Dickson, his brother John (Elaine) Dickson, and his nephews Jeremy Dickson, Christopher (Cassidy) Dickson, and Patrick Dickson, all from Huntsville, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his mother Jeanette Dickson. Born on December 28, 1964, in Jackson, Mississippi, Jamy spent most of his life in the Jackson/Byram/Raymond area. He graduated from Wingfield High School, Hinds Community College, and Mississippi State University. He received his master’s from the University of Tennessee and returned to Hinds where he became the District Director of the Disability Support Services (DSS) office where he had worked for 18 years. In his unique role in DSS, Jamy came to know many who work at Hinds’ six campuses and knew almost everyone at the Raymond campus. He was kind and helpful and full of joy to all he met. Fittingly, Jamy is universally loved and will be sorely missed at Hinds. In addition, Jamy’s work with the deaf community—both in Mississippi and nationwide—made him an ambassador for Hinds and for the work of the staff in DSS. Visitation will be 12:30 PM Saturday afternoon, August 27 at Wynndale Baptist Church in Terry, MS. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Mississippi School for the Deaf, 1253 Eastover Drive, Jackson, MS 39211 (601-984-8000).
