Mr. Jan Carmen Hylander, 78, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2013 at his home in Terry. Visitation will be 3-5pm Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Services will be 11am Monday, December 30, in the funeral home chapel with a one hour visitation prior to service time. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park, Clinton, MS. Mr. Hylander was born in Water Valley, MS to the late Adolph Harry Hylander and Eula Young Hylander. Raised in Holcomb, MS. He moved to Terry after retiring from the U.S. Navy after 22 years where he was in the Seabees, active duty tours, shore duty at Orange, TX and retired as a Chief Engineman. After the Navy, he moved to Holcomb and worked for Binswanger Mirror Co. Then moved to Terry and retired from Frito Lay as a master mechanic. Mr. Hylander was well respected by employment and co-workers as a perfectionist. The original cowboy, he loved horses and was an avid motorcyclist. He was a member of Christian Motorcycle Association , NRA, a longtime member and trustee of Wesleyan Community Church and presently a member of Berea Baptist Church in Terry. He is preceded in death by his parents; children, Jan (Buz) Hylander, Jr. and Eula Joy Hylander and brother Louis Gordon Hylander. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Sarah Hylander of Terry; son David Joe (Nadine) Hylander of San Diego, CA; daughter Joan (Jimmy) Estes of Terry; 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Special thanks to 2 grandsons, Harry Hylander for his many hours of care in the hospital, and Lee Bailey for his many hours of care in the home.
