Janice "Nanny" Smith

Janice Marie Tyler Smith, 73, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 24, 2022 at her home, surrounded by her family. Visitation will be held at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, MS on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 from 5:00 p.m.—7:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at Griffith Memorial Baptist Church in Jackson, MS from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of the service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery in Brandon, MS.

Janice was born to the late Frank and Hazel Tyler in Vicksburg, MS. She graduated from Central High School in 1966. She was employed at McRae’s for many years, managing the jewelry department and worked in the buying offices and continued to work there when McRae’s became Belk’s. She then worked for an attorney in Raymond until she retired due to the Covid Pandemic.

Janice has known her husband, Bob Smith, for over 64 years. They met when they were kids in Oak Dale Park. She then married the love of her life in 1964 and they were married for 58 years. In her early years, she loved to go fishing with Bob.

Janice also enjoyed going down to the farm. She loved to watch her grandson, Tyler Barlow show cattle in the 4-H cattle shows. She helped raise Tyler from the age of two years old. Janice was the type of woman that made sure everyone was taken care of before she would take care of herself.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lee and Sarah Howard.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Bob Smith; daughter, Tamara Barlow; grandson, Tyler Barlow; sisters, Michell (Henry) Williams and Darla Allred; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wonderful church family.
