Mr. Jimmie Alphanso Murphy, 83, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2021. There will be a visitation at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, MS on Monday, June 21, 2021 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. His funeral service will be at 11:30 AM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, MS. Mr. Murphy was married to the love of his life, Mary Ann Murphy, for 64 years before her passing in March of 2020. Mr. Murphy was a long-time resident of Jackson, MS before relocating to Byram, MS thirty years ago. Jimmie and Mary Ann were faithful members of Epworth United Methodist Church before it closed. Currently, Mr. Murphy was a member of Wynndale Baptist Church. Some of Mr. Murphy’s favorite past times were golfing, fishing, and spending time outdoors. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force for 8 years and then served in the MS Air National Guard for 25 years before retiring. He also retired from the United States Postal Service. During his career there he served as president of the U.S. Postal Workers Union and was a board member of the United Postal Employees Federal Credit Union in Jackson, MS. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Murphy; a son, Mike Murphy and his parents, Joel & Annie Mae Murphy. Those left behind to cherish his memories include: his daughter, Kim (Ricky) Saxton of Byram; grandchildren, Amanda Saxton of Byram, Donna (Tyler) Harris of Madison, and Ryan (Marla) Saxton of Jackson; great grandchildren, Cameron Saxton, Katie Woods, Parker Harris, Frances Saxton, and Easton Harris; and his best friend since 4th grade, who he talked to every day, Bob Fortune, formerly of Jackson now living in Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mr. Murphy’s favorite charity, Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson, MS.
