John E. Dodd

John E. Dodd, Sr., 77, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at his home. He was born on June 5, 1935 in Jackson, MS. Mr. Dodd was a 1953 graduate of Forest Hill High School after which he joined U.S. Marine Corps. Upon his return he joined the Jackson Fire Department where he served for 33 years retiring in 1995 as a District Chief. While working full time he attended Jackson State University earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology in 1977. Mr. Dodd served on the board of Directors of the Jackson Area Federal Credit Union from 1984-1994 and was a member of First Baptist Church of Jackson. Mr. Dodd was preceded in death by his parents Moses James Dodd and Luva Whitfield Dodd and brothers Charles W. Dodd and Van R. Dodd. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Hilda, daughter Reneé Bennett (Scott) of Mission Viejo, CA and son Dr. J. Edwin Dodd, Jr. (Rhonda) of Jackson, MS. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren Ryan, Brittany and Grant Bennett and John E. Dodd, III. Visitation is Friday, April 19, 2013 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm and Saturday, April 20 from 9:00am until 10:00am at Chancellor Funeral Home, 7225 Siwell Road in Byram, MS. Funeral services will be at 10:00am Saturday, April 20 at Chancellor Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Lakewood Cemetery in Clinton.
