John VanBeurn “JV” Lewis, also known to many as “Bo”, age 75, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Merit Health Central in Jackson. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at 3:30pm at Terry Cemetery. Mr. Lewis lived his entire life in Terry, MS. While serving nearly 13 ½ years in the Army National Guard he successfully completed the “Infantry Mechanics Course”, earned the “Rifle Marksmanship Badge” and was later Honorably Discharged in 1977. He very much enjoyed all types of firearms and anything military related. JV had very fond memories of many classmates at Raymond High School, where he graduated in 1960. While in High School JV drove a school bus for two years. He later enjoyed a career of many years working as a Security Police Officer, in which he retired from the State around 2003. His favorite job was when he worked as Capitol Security Police, working at the State Capitol during Ronnie Musgrove’s stay. He had a great love for all types of birds. In his younger days he had a passion for muscle cars, loved playing music on his guitar & banjo, and most of all, he never met a stranger – he was always sharing his great smile and laugh everywhere he went. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry R. Lewis and Gladys Williamson Lewis of Terry, MS. Survivors include special family friends the Hill’s (Dennis, Deborah, Timmy, Tommy and Anna) who loved and cherished him very much and will miss his deeply. In lieu of flowers, Memorials/Donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Indian School, PO Box 300, Chamberlain, SD 57325-0300 in honor of JV Lewis.
