John Herman Ray Jr. died Sunday, July 14, 2013 at home, after a long battle with cancer. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., Monday, July 15th at Chancellor’s Funeral Home in Byram, MS. Services will be Tuesday, July 16th at 2 p.m. at Chancellor’s Chapel with the Reverend Gene Jordan officiating. Burial service will be in the Terry Cemetery. John joined the Air Force in 1949 and served for 8 ½ years. He served one year in Korea during the war. John, Senior Vice President, retired after 30 years of service with Blue Cross/Blue Shield. During the past 50 years, he operated a cattle farm in Terry, MS with herds of registered Angus and Beef Master cattle. He was a pillar in his community. He loved everyone and had a heart of gold. John was a dedicated member of New Haven Baptist Church, Terry and a strong supporter of Bethesda Baptist Church, Terry. John always said “Nothing drives like a Cadillac”. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Catherine McFarland Ray, two sons, John H. (Chuck) Ray III, Terry and Richard Allen Ray, Clinton and one daughter, Sheila Darlene (Ray), Terry; Grandchildren Tony Gregg, Brandon, John H. (Chip) Ray IV, now serving in Afghanistan, Rachel Gregg, Terry, Patrick Ray, Pearl, Daniel Ray, Pearl; Great grandchildren Brandon King, Brandon, Madison Gregg, Brandon, Tyler Gregg, Terry, Jacob Gregg, Terry; Sister in law Linda McFarland Broadwater, Terry and numerous nieces and nephews. Other survivors include brother, William Glen Ray, Terry, sister in law Danzie Ray, Terry; Sister Della Ray Hughes, Terry and brother in law James Hughes, Terry. John was preceded in death by his Father, John H. Ray Sr., Mother, Lyda Manning Ray, and Sister, Sara Willie Ray.” Pallbearers: Mark Ray, Tony Gregg, John H.
