John Shields, Sr.

John Garold Shields, Sr., 86 died Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at MS State Veterans Home in Jackson. Visitation will be Friday, January 15, 2010 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 342 W. Main Street in Florence from 5-8 p.m. Services will be on Saturday at the church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in the Shields Family Cemetery on Beaver Creek Road in Richland.\ \ A veteran of the US Air Force, Mr. Shields was active in politics, and in NALC, National Association of Letter Carriers Labor Union. He was a Boy Scout Master and served as PTA President. He was a High Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.\ \ He is preceded in death by his son, Lewie K. Shields, brothers, Charles J. Shields and William L. Shields and a sister, Zellbe Jorgenson.\ \ He is survived by his wife, Germiece Shields of Richland; sons: John G. Shields, Jr., MD of West Point, Al Shields of Richland, Steven D. Shields of Richland, and Douglas Tadd Shields of Salt Lake City, Utah, Rod Shields, MD of Florence,; daughters: Crystal McFarland of Dallas, TX and Cindy Dean of Richland; 27 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.\
