John C Slade, Sr., 71, crossed into glory on February 26th, 2016. Visitation will be 12-4pm Monday, February 29, 2016 with a 4pm funeral service in the chapel at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Interment will follow at Raymond City Cemetery. John was born to the late Eugene and Dorothy Slade in Raymond MS on December 11, 1944. He married his one and only sweetheart, Jean McCreary on July 28th, 1967. Together they had 4 children Andy Slade, Nancy (Tommy) Pettis, Patti Stubbs all of Raymond and Johnny (Kim) Slade of Clinton MS. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and brothers Eugene Slade of Terry MS and Jim Slade of Jacksonville FL. He is preceded in death by many loved ones but especially 2 grandchildren Elijah Slade and Lindsey Brooks Slade. He was the pastor of the Hinds County Penal Farm for 30 years and also the devoted pastor at Anding Baptist Church in Bentonia MS where he truly loved and was honored to be not only their pastor but friend. John was a bigger than life character with a heart of gold. He had a smile from the rim of his eye glasses to his chin. He never met a stranger and he never took for granted that the first time meeting someone might be his last and he always made sure to share the gospel in that conversation. He truly woke up every day to "be about the Lord's work" and even if he never left his driveway he was on the phone doing it. He loved his family so that even at the mention of them he beamed with pride and to mention his sweetheart still brought a twinkle to his eye. He always stressed how important family is and that Christ be the center of that family and he lived that. He married his children and two grandchildren, dedicated his grandbabies, baptized his grandbabies and even had the strong faith enough to eulogize his grandbaby. John leaves a legacy and a footprint that will endure future generations.
