John Alvis Burney, 89, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at MBMC in Jackson. Visitation will be 5-8pm Friday, December 17, 2010 and 9am until the 11am funeral services Saturday, December 18, 2010, all at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Interment will follow at Lakewood South.\ \ Mr. Burney was born November 24, 1921 in Poplar Creek, MS to J.W. and Ollie Stone Burney. He was a graduate of Kilmichael High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII. Mr. Burney retired from Bell South as a Special Services Engineer and was a member of Central Baptist Church in Byram.\ \ He dearly loved his children and grandchildren, was an avid sportsman who enjoyed farming, raising cows, and baling hay. He loved his church.\ \ He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Moses "Mack" Williams Burney.\ \ Survivors include his wife Mary Burney; sons, John A. Burney, Jr. (Vicki) and Robert David Burney,Sr. (Connie); daughter, Cheryl Cooley (Cody); 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.\ Memorial maybe made to Central Baptist Church of Byram; P.O.
