Mr. Johnny Covington, 72, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 1, 2018. Visitation will be Sunday, June 3, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Monday, June 4, 2018 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, MS. The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Monday also at Chancellor Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park, South. Mr. Covington was a 27 ½ year veteran of the Jackson Police Department where he served as Commander of Precinct 1 and also the department’s head hostage negotiator for many years. He was an active member of Griffith Memorial Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. His is preceded in death by his parents Ruth Bolware and Hugh Covington. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 51 years, Cheryl Covington of Terry, his only child Missy Biggs (Steve) of Byram and the light of his life, his granddaughter, Baylee Claire Biggs, His brothers Hubert David Covington of Brandon, Willie Covington (Inez) of Madison and sister Charlotte Cole of Madison. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews to whom he loved dearly. Because Mr. Covington was an avid hunter and fisherman, the family asked that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Catch-A- Dream foundation.
