Johnny Leon Dickson, age 85, passed away July 14, 2018 in Huntsville, Ala. Born October 25, 1932 in Jackson, Miss., Johnny aspired to follow in his father’s footsteps as a policeman with the Jackson Police Department (JPD). Johnny started his career as a motorcycle officer; served as Officer Friendly, introducing policemen to school age children; Communications Officer, providing daily media information on crimes and accidents; Precinct Commander; Deputy Chief overseeing the Training Academy, Evidence and Property, Research and Planning, Communications, and Records; and retired after 35 years of service to JPD. Johnny was a long-time member of Alta Woods Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Jeanette Dickson; his son, Jamy Dickson; his parents, Viola and James Dickson; and his brother, Jim Dickson. He is survived by his son, John (Elaine) Dickson of Huntsville, Ala.; his grandsons, Jeremy Dickson, Christopher (Cassidy) Dickson, and Patrick Dickson; his nephews, David (Judy) Dickson and Jeff (Jennifer) Dickson; and his nieces Diana (Steve) Snell and Judy Holder. He will be remembered as a family man who loved humor, practical jokes, and serving his city proudly. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 21 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, Miss. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, Miss.
