Judith "Judy" Johnson Martin passed away and into the arms of Jesus late Tuesday night, June 18, 2024 at her residence in Pocahontas, MS. She went to be with the Heavenly Father and her beloved husband, Robert David Martin.
Judy was the oldest of 6 children, born on January 15, 1946, to Luther and Virginia Bankston Johnson in Jones County, Laurel, MS. Judy married her high school sweetheart on July 9, 1967 and they were blessed to celebrate 55 wonderful years together before Robert's passing.
Judy's extensive education began with her graduation from Sandersville High School in 1964. She received her associates degree from Jones Junior College and obtained her Bachelors of Science degree in English from William Carey University in Hattiesburg, MS. She then attended Mississippi College in Clinton and obtained her Masters and Specialist Degrees.
Judy was known for her impeccable work ethic and the love she shared with all those around her. Her compassion and love for teaching children life lessons influenced them for the rest of their lives. She was a born teacher, She taught for over 35 years and retired from Eastside Elementary School in Clinton, MS. During her illustrious career she received many awards and honors including the 1996 "Whos Who Among Teachers and Educator of the year. Her legacy is reflected in the many letters she still receives to this day, thanking her for the impact she has had on their lives whether it be business, education, or the love of animals, particularly horses.
In 1976, Robert was accepted into the Blue Lodge Masonic Order, where Judy was his full time partner as a Worthy Matron of Eastern Star.
If you knew Judy, there was not much in the way of adventures that she was not up for including cruises, motorcycle rides, snow skiing, snowmobiling, trail riding, and anything to do with horses. Along with her beloved husband, Robert, she visited al 50 states and many countries. She loved her dogs; Macy, Max, and Chester.
Judy was one of those rare and precious individuals who lived life to the fullest, recognizing many blessings and in her own words, said "May the work I have done speak for me". She loved the Lord with all her heart and was proud to be a child of God. Her main goal as a Christian was to share the Word of God with everyone she met and ensure the salvation of her family. Her favorite bible verse was "I press on for the goal to win the prize for which God has called me Heavenward in Christ Jesus". Philippians 3:14.
Judy is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Robert D. Martin.
She is survived by her beloved sister, Debby Gooch, known to most as "Deb and I" of Flora, MS; her 4 brothers, Bobby Johnson of Laurel, MS, Darrell Johnson (Barbara) of Laurel, MS, Joe Johnson (Deborah Jane) of Nashville, TN, and Mike Johnson (Teena) of Laurel, MS along with a host of most beloved nieces and nephews.
She is and will always be missed and loved by her family.
