Mrs. Kathryn "Kitty" Shivers McDowell

Mrs. Kathryn “Kitty” Shivers McDowell, 89, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Villa South Assisted Living in Florence. Visitation will be Saturday, May 19th from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. Burial will follow at Florence City Cemetery. Mrs. McDowell was born in Shivers, MS to George and Roma Shivers. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Florence. She was a graduate of Mississippi College with a Master’s in education and worked at MS School for the Blind, Murrah High School, and with JPS as a teacher evaluator. Mrs. McDowell was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas H. McDowell; sisters, Pherbia S. Phillips and Emma S. Rawls; brothers, Eugene C. Shivers and T. Webber Shivers, Sr. and one step grandson. She is survived by her sons, Alan (Christal) Majure of Birmingham, AL, Marcus (Lisa) Majure of Lansing, KS, and Philip (Kelly) Majure of Louisville, CO; step-daughter, Jane (Tony) Morgan of Florence; 4 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, and 1 step-granddaughter.
