Katie McFarland Goolsby of Brownsville, Mississippi, went Home to be with her Savior on January 24, 2023.
She was born on March 6, 1941, to W.L. and Eunice Franklin McFarland in Yazoo County, Mississippi. She married her sweetheart, Raymond, on May 31, 1959, shortly after graduating high school. In their almost 64 years of marriage, they raised two children, Chris and Kaylon, and enjoyed many memories with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends at their home in the country.
Of all that could be said about her life on earth, those who knew her best would agree that she lived life fully, joyfully serving the Lord in all she did – in her home, her years spent working as a secretary, teaching Sunday School, and being a true friend.
The final years of her life may have been marked by a sickness that took her memory, but her memory lives on with those she loved. As she would have wanted, we’ll continue in her example as we live for Jesus and serve Him with all our hearts until it’s our time to go Home, too.
Katie is preceded in death by her father, W.L. McFarland; mother, Eunice Franklin McFarland; and brother, Wayne McFarland. She is survived by her loving husband, Raymond Goolsby; son, Chris Goolsby (Lisa) of Clinton; and daughter, Kaylon Winstead (Doug) of Bolton, and her four grandchildren: Christopher Goolsby (Alletta), Lauren Goolsby, Kaley Olson (Jared), and Abbey Creel (Caleb); and also seven great-grandchildren: Mackenzie, Avery, Lake, Emma, Hughes, Finn, and Samuel. Katie is also survived by her brother, Ray McFarland (Faye) of Raymond; her sister, Juanita Waldrop of Shreveport, LA and many nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to extend a special thank-you to those who cared for her: Debbie Creel of Flora, MS, as well as the medical providers at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, MS and Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS.
Visitation is at Beulah Memorial Baptist Church on Friday, January 27, from noon-2:00 p.m. with the funeral immediately following. A private family burial will be held afterward at Bethel Memorial Cemetery, close to her home in the country. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Beulah Memorial Baptist Church in Brownsville, MS, where she served faithfully for many years, or give a donation in her memory to Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day…” 2 Timothy 4:7-8
