Katie M. Nell, 89, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. Visitation will be 5-8pm Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Services will be 2pm Thursday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Lakewood South.\ \ Mrs. Nell was born July 30, 1919 in Wiggins, MS where she lived until she met and married Wilbur H. Nell in December 1941. They made their home in Youngstown, OH until they moved to Jackson in 1955. For the majority of her life she was a home maker, and lovingly cared for her husband and children. She instilled in her children the value of the family unit, the importance of honesty, integrity and faith. She will always be remembered for her helping of others, and living a life devoted to her Christian beliefs. She was a member of Alta Woods Baptist Church for many years where she participated in the senior choir, teaching Sunday School and was a member of the WMU.\ \ She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters, one brother and one great-grandchild. She is survived by two sons, Richard A. (Doris) Nell, Sr. of Terry, MS, Edwin Nell of Kosciusko, MS and a daughter Carol Carr of Texas Creek, CO; six grand children;8 great grand children; two brother, Metro (Joann) Taylor of Wiggins, MS, Elwood (Bertha) Taylor of Perkinston, MS, and two sisters, Lois Brown of Wiggins, MS and Ruby Dale of Gulfport, MS.\ \ Memorials may be made to the Alta Wood Library Fund at 168 Colonial Dr. Jackson, MS 39204.
