Kenneth Wayne “Gunny” Lenington (USMC, Retired), 77, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2107 at the VA Hospital in Jackson. Celebration of his life will be Monday, October 16th at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence from 9:30-10:30 a.m. with internment following in the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Newton, MS at 12:00 p.m. Ken retired as a Gunnery Sergeant after serving in the Vietnam war. He loved his family, his country, and the U.S. Marine Corps. He rode his Gold Wing motorcycle with the Patriot Guard, American Legion Riders, the Christian Motorcycle Association and Run for the Wall/ Rolling Thunder. Ken is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth W. and Elizabeth Lenington. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Lenington of Richland; sons, Kenneth W. “Bill” Lenington III (Elizabeth) of Brandon and Eric L. Lenington (Heather) of Tremont, IL; brothers, William Comstock of Pekin, IL and Edgar Lenington (Jean) of Shelton, WA; sister, Cathy Englebrecht (Michael) of Pekin, IL and Joyce Simons (Robert) of Pekin, IL; and five grandchildren, Walker, Kate, Mitch, Cole, and Madison Lenington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, Toys for Tots, Easter Seal, or the charity of your choice. Rest in Peace, Gunny. Semper Fi!
