Knoff Landon Staten, 89, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at his home in Terry, MS. Visitation will be held at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, MS on Sunday, May 22, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Terry Cemetery in Terry, MS. Knoff was born in Charleston, MS on September 25, 1932. A veteran of the US Air Force, he was employed with the Jackson Fire Department for 37 years, reaching the rank of Captain. Other than his nickname, “Rooster”, he was known as “Dad” to the other firefighters because they could go to him with anything and he would always listen. He was a member of Southside Assembly of God in Jackson, MS. Knoff loved nature and his true passion was gardening. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with the love of his life and wife of 50 years, June. They did everything together until she preceded him in death in 2008. Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Sanford Staten and sister-in-law, Johnnie Mae Staten. He is survived by two sons, Lannie Staten (Sandra) of Terry and Darryl Staten (Kathy) of Clinton, 7 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
