Judge Lee B. Agnew, Jr. (Lee Jr.),82, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday morning, June 7, 2024, peacefully in his sleep from his home in Terry, Mississippi.
A graduate of Central High School, The University of Mississippi, and Jackson School of Law (now Mississippi College School of Law), Lee Jr., still serving as a Terry Municipal Court Judge at the time of his passing, enjoyed a 55-year career as a second-generation attorney in Jackson, Mississippi. He also served as a Family Master for the Hinds County Chancery Court for over 30 years. Lee Jr. loved the practice of law and the legal process, but more than that he loved the people he served. He was affectionately known throughout the state for his colorful attire and his kind and humble demeanor.
Additionally, he had a flair for the dramatics and enjoyed performing on stage. His theatrical debuts began in his childhood at the Jackson Little Theater (now New Stage) and continued in his college years at Ole Miss, where he played The Mute King in Once Upon a Mattress and Bo Decker in Bus Stop. He spent many years entertaining on the Friends of Terry / Terry Depot Stage and was best known, loved, and hated, for his portrayal of Craven Sinclair, the Villain as Poisonous as a Toad, in multiple performances of Lily, The Felon’s Daughter.
Lee Jr. also loved hunting and fishing, spending many wonderful hours in the Gulf of Mexico along the Mississippi Gulf Coast chasing redfish and speckled trout. Most of all, Lee Jr. loved his family. He was a dedicated son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who was dearly loved and will be missed every day.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 50 years, Donna Kay Calhoun Agnew; his parents, Lee B. Agnew, Sr. and Georgia Nicar Agnew; and his brother, George Edward Agnew. He is survived by his daughter Wendy Agnew Hutchins, and his son, Bo Agnew and daughter-in-law Robyn Agnew, as well as grandchildren Bryant Hutchins, Brandon Hutchins, Bodie Agnew, and Cosson Agnew. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Lynne Agnew Underwood and brother-in-law, David Underwood, nieces, nephews, and an amazing large circle of friends who are all more like family.
