Leland Newman

Leland D. Newman, 64, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Ms Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Visitation will be 2-5pm Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Services will be 10am Monday, January14 in the funeral home chapel with a one hour visitation prior to service time. Interment will follow at Galilee Baptist Church Cemetery in Rockport, MS.\ \ Mr. Newman was born in Natchez, MS to the late John and Lora Peebles Newman. He retired from management at J.C. Penney's and had also worked in management for Fred's, Walmart and Dollar General. Mr. Newman loved to paint, was an avid coin collector and a First Degree Black Belt in Karate. He was a member of Oak Forest Baptist Church.\ \ Survivors include his wife of 41 years Cordelia Newman; son James Newman of Baton Rouge, LA and daughter Nicole Newman of Byram.\ \ Memorials may be made to Gateway Missions.
