Mr. Lonnie Woods

January 27, 1949 — May 6, 2015

Lonnie Edward Duane Woods----“Spike” to family and friends and “Paw-Paw” to Grandsons William and Taylor passed to eternal peace and good health on 5/6/2015. After many unquestioning and uncomplaining years of declining health and set-backs he passed away at his home in Byram with his loving wife Diane and friend Mike Malone with him. Visitation will be 5-7pm Friday, May 8, 2015 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Services will be 11am Saturday, May 9, 2015 in the funeral home chapel with visitation from 10-11am Saturday. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park. Lonnie was born 27 January 1949 in Jackson where he attended Lake Elementary, Hardy Jr. High and graduated Provine High School in 1967, the latter was much to the joy of many teachers and his parents. He was a US Navy Veteran from ’69-’71 and was most proud of his 30 years service with Illinois Central-Canadian Northern Railroad as an engineer. He lived the life of a true railroad man and treasured his many friendships and experiences acquired there. He entertained many people over his years with his “larger than life” but true railroad stories. He enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting, cooking and providing an over-abundance of unsolicited free advice regardless of the recipient or the topic at hand. Lonnie was meticulous in detail and in preparation for all events; from his clothes, his care for his mother at Willow Creek Nursing Home, and for his meeting with Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior. In good health he was an active and energetic outdoor person. In these last years of declining health he enjoyed cooking and staying in contact with family and friends. He was tender hearted, thoughtful, giving, and put all others before him. He was preceded in death by his father W.T. “Bill” Woods and younger sister Ouida Jones. Lonnie is survived by his loving and supportive wife of 20 years, Diane of Byram, his beloved mother Ouida Jean Woods of Willow Creek Nursing Home, his daughter Wendie Woods of Starkville, his son Lonnie E. Woods, II “Spikie, his wife Rachelle and their sons William and Taylor of Brandon, brother Spud Woods and sister in law Linda, of Jonesboro, Louisiana, special cousin and friend George Burgess of Bentonia, nieces Marley Nelson and Brandy Williams of Raymond, and extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. The family wishes to thank their Railroad friends for their love and support, Willow Creek Nursing Home, Central Dialysis of Hazlehurst, Byram Police & Fire Departments and their many friends of First Baptist Church of Byram. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Byram Building Fund in memory of Lonnie Woods. On line guest book www.chancellorfuneralhome.com.
