Lori Chantay Steen

February 26, 1961 — December 4, 2023

Florence

The most difficult marathon a person can run has been completed. It is finished. The race is over. Lori Chantay Webb Steen was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the spring of 2022. After undergoing surgery and treatment, another type of cancer called Leiomyosarcoma began invading her body. Chantay fought this evil disease a year and eight months. She had the determination and will to stay alive not only for her family, but for life itself. All humankind will die, but not all people live. Chantay lived!

Chantay was born in Jackson, Mississippi on February 26, 1961, to Joseph Emmitt (Joe) Webb, Jr., and Lois Marie Miller Webb. She resided in Florence until May of 2021 when she moved to Madison, Mississippi to be close to her daughter and family. She passed away on December 4, 2023, at home surrounded by loved ones. She was 62 years old. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2023, and Friday, December 8, 2023, from 12-2 p.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. The service will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday. Interment will follow in Florence City Cemetery.

Chantay was an occupational therapist at Willow Creek Nursing Home in Byram, Mississippi. She previously worked at Trinity Rehab and also traveled to other nursing homes in the area on occasion. She loved to travel, especially to St. Maarten, St. Thomas, Maui, Aruba, Colorado, and the beaches of Florida. She graduated from Florence High School in 1978 and was described by a classmate as the “sunshine” of her class. She always kept in touch with her classmates. Chantay loved life, entertaining, and socializing with family and friends. She loved music, dancing, corvettes, and Ole Miss. An avid runner, she participated in many races and marathons over the years.  She could be seen on the podium quite often and has hundreds of ribbons, trophies, and awards. She was a fierce competitor, with grit and determination. She competed in many local groups including MS Race Timing, MS Coffee Runners, Rods Racers, Team Agony of DeFeet and MS Track Club. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Florence, Mississippi. She loved the Lord and remained strong in her faith, particularly during these last months.

Chantay is preceded in death by her parents; Joe and Lois Webb, maternal grandparents; Lillie Mullican Miller Thorn and Grady Miller, paternal grandparents; Rubye Cook Webb and Joseph Emmitt (Joe) Webb, Sr.

She is survived by her fur baby, Bandit, children; Matt Ingle, Shondra Lynn Thomas (Matt) and Joseph Steen, grandchildren; Emma Ingle, Blake Ingle and Fletcher Thomas, brother; Tim Webb (Teresa), a very special aunt; Ramona McDonald, and many beloved cousins and friends.

Pallbearers are Blake Ball, Dustin Harrison, John David Harrison, Kevin Ingle, Brandon Keel and Jeff Thomas. Honorary pallbearers are Ken Harrison and Charles Reis.

Reverend Glynn Pope will officiate.

A very special thank you to Dr. Laura Daily, Mississippi Baptist Medical Center 5D oncology floor, Dr. Tammy Young and staff at Jackson Oncology Associates, and an extra special thank you to CFNP, Maxie Ball, for your professionalism, determination, and patience, but most of all your love and dedication.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2Timothy 4:7
