Loteal Chesney Burchfield, lovingly known as Loteal, was born on September 15, 1931, in Union, MS. She was the cherished daughter of Bennie and Hattie Chesney. Services will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024, with visitation at 9:30 am and lasting until the hour of service at 11:00 am at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram.
Throughout her life, Loteal had the opportunity to explore various career paths where she made a significant impact. She worked for several years at Kolb's Cleaners in Byram and devoted her talents to the Metrocenter Information Booth for a decade. With diligence and dedication, Loteal displayed her strong work ethic and caring nature in everything she did.
When not busy with her professional endeavors, Loteal found joy in spending quality time with her beloved husband, Alton. The couple shared countless moments walking hand in hand through their neighborhood, creating lifelong memories cherished by all who knew them.
Cooking was one of Loteal's greatest passions. She loved cooking for others and no meal prepared by her ever failed to leave everyone satisfied and content. Her kind and compassionate spirit endeared her to all those fortunate enough to cross paths with her.
In addition to her culinary skills and professional accomplishments, Loteal had a deep love for shopping and playing Bingo with her friends. She and her husband, Alton found solace in tending to their garden, she enjoyed watching their efforts flourish and grow.
Loteal is preceded in death by her parents, Bennie and Hattie Chesney. She joins her beloved husband, Alton Burchfield and daughter, Teresa Lick in eternal rest, along with two brothers, Lamar and Sammy; and a sister, Ellen.
Loteal will be dearly missed by her surviving family members and friends who hold treasured memories close to their hearts. Among those left behind are her loving daughter, Nelda (Val) Moore of Ridgeland. Her memory will forever be cherished by her four grandchildren: Carrie Moore, Austin (Lydia) Moore, and Tyler (Emily) Moore, Bridget (Jason) Gwizdala, as well as her seven great-grandchildren: Evelyn and Mason Gwizdala, Garner, Malone, Wren, Banks, and Burch Moore. She leaves behind with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, a legacy of love, and beautiful fun memories filled with laughter. Additionally, she leaves behind several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who were blessed to experience her infectious love and gentle nature.
The family wishes to thank Brookdale Assisted Living and the Community Place Rehabilitation for the kindness and great care shown to her and the fond memories she made while there.
Special thanks to her Oak Forest Baptist Church friends as well as her Wynndale Baptist Church friends who never failed to encourage her through the years.
A special thank you to Ann Purvis and her husband, Carl, who had become her dearest friend over the last several years. Ann offered consistent encouragement and never failed to bring a smile to her face.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to The Little Light House of Central Mississippi, 6000 Old Canton Rd, Jackson, MS 39211.
