Louie Ray Matheny, 75, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a long illness on January 17, 2015. He was born near Sumrall, MS on October 17, 1939 to the late Obie Betha and Mary Magdalene Matheny. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 20 from 11:00 until 2:00 at Chancellor Funeral in Byram, MS. Funeral services will begin at 2:00. Interment will immediately follow at Garden of Memories located at 2576 Highway 49 S Florence, MS. After the death of his father, Ray moved to Jackson, MS in his teens, along with his mother and siblings. He attended Central High School. He married his wife Carolyn in 1959. He then worked for A&P grocery store and then Prichard International Trucks in Jackson from 1961 to 1969. In 1969, Ray went to work for Truck, Trailer & Equipment Inc., located in Pearl, MS. He retired from full-time work in 1999, but continued to work for the company on a part-time basis for several more years. He also worked part-time for Volvo in Jackson before retiring completely. Ray was a hard-worker who loved to spend long hours cleaning and beautifying his property and tending his garden. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandsons Matthew and Justin. He loved dogs and rescued several from the MS Animal Rescue League in Jackson, MS. He also enjoyed attending auctions and estate sales and loved to travel whenever possible. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; several sisters and brothers. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Carolyn; son Anthony of Flowood; son Greg and his wife Carol and grandchildren Matthew and Justin of Gluckstadt and his sister Marilyn Bledsoe and husband Lynn of Dry Prong, Louisiana.
